The UK’s security landscape has long been a complex environment of dedicated professionals working across various sectors. While police forces and private security firms have always shared the common goal of protecting our streets, venues and infrastructure, the advent of new technology and shifting threats has highlighted an opportunity for even closer, more synchronised collaboration.
That evolution is now underway. Following a landmark meeting of industry leaders and the Home Office in September 2025, a new powerhouse has been established to unify the sector: The S12 Security Industry Senior Leadership Group.
The "S12" is a strategic partnership between the UK Government and the private security industry. It is comprised of twelve senior leaders elected from across the security guarding sector: ranging from the largest national providers to small specialist firms, alongside a collective Trade Association representative.
The mission of the S12 is clear: to serve as the operational voice of the industry. By working directly with the Home Office, the S12 will shape policy, drive professional standards, and accelerate the implementation of vital public safety measures like Martyn’s Law.
The Integrated Policing and Private Security (IPPS) initiative stands as a cornerstone of this new collaborative era. While the S12 acts as the strategic engine, the IPPS is a critical operational workstream designed to formalise how police and private security work together on the ground.
Here is how they are connected:
For police forces, the S12 and IPPS represent a more reliable, professional, and coordinated partner in the private sector. It means enhanced data sharing, joint planning for high-risk events, and a more cohesive approach to frontline safety.
For private security firms, the S12 provides a permanent seat at the table. Whether a firm is a large entity or a small specialist provider, the S12 ensures its voice is heard by the Home Office, helping to secure a thriving sector that is respected as a pillar of public safety
The S12 is already moving at pace, with monthly meetings scheduled to drive these initiatives forward. By breaking new ground in public-private partnerships, they are building a more secure country for everyone.
As we look toward a more integrated future, technology will be the linchpin that turns these strategic visions into operational reality. This is where solutions like Airbox can play a transformative role. By providing a common operating picture, we can help bridge the communication gap between police forces and private security teams, ensuring that security teams and warranted officers are seeing the same data in real-time.
Whether it is coordinating a response to a local incident or managing the complexities of a major public event, our focus is on fostering the seamless interoperability required to keep the public safe. We are keen to explore how our tools can support the S12’s mission and help both sectors work more effectively as one unified frontline.
